Photos at Cafe St. Jorge

A big thanks to Cafe St. Jorge for hosting two small collections of my photos over the past two months, and to everyone who dropped by to check them out (including at their artist reception night).

I’ll tentatively have my photography on display at other locations around San Francisco during 2017. Stay tuned!

One Man’s Struggle With Gear

One Man’s Struggle With Gear

My name is David Kennedy and I have a gear problem.  It started innocently enough in high school.  I experimented with hiking and backpacking first.  Then I met more outdoorsy folk and started to explore caves, rivers, and rock cliffs.  Then it got serious when I moved to Colorado – skiing and ice climbing. Most recently, photography has become the umbrella in which all other outdoor activities fall.

Recap: Lessons learned on our Iceland and Lofoten photo trip

We recently returned from a two week trip to Iceland and Norway in winter, a bucket-list trip for many photographers. Both have recently grown significantly in terms of photo tourism, both summer and winter, and you may think, “it’s overdone!” but it’s popular for a reason. Yes, it can be crowded, even in winter now, but it’s still worth a visit. Or two!

I’ve been playing more and more with in camera motion (i.e. panning the camera or zooming during a longer exposure). It started as something I’d do when objective “A” fell through or I was feeling restless, and now I sometimes find myself seeing scenes that work well with it, like this tunnel of trees at Point Reyes, north of San Francisco.

Last January, a friend and I took the Amtrak Zephyr train from San Francisco to Denver with stops in Truckee and Salt Lake City to ski (plus skiing in Colorado after we arrived). It was a great trip full of great skiing and new experiences. But a long trip.

To pass the time, I slept some, read some, listened to podcasts some, and, of course, took pictures.
