Snow in Denver

Snow in Denver

Snowy scenes from around Denver.

It’s been a dry year, so when the snow began to fall recently, it was time to get out and photograph. This series was all taken at night to capture as clean of snow as possible. Plus, it’s easier to stand in the middle of the street for long periods of time without being ran over :).

This week the warm weather is returning, but with March historically being Colorado’s highest precipitation month, hopefully there will be more opportunities to come.

So many angles to capture the water tower in Olde Town Arvada. On this particular evening I explored many of them while exploring on foot near my place.
Bison in the Snow

Bison in the Snow

Bison in an early season snow from last fall. I went out that morning in the falling snow not sure what I may find and was delighted when I found a bison herd, easily accessible and in the trees which provided some different photo compositions than I normally take of bison.

Since these photos were taken, Denver has been incredibly dry. While the nice weather has been welcomed at times, hopefully the next couple of months provide additional snow-coated photographic opportunities.

Having a moment with a one-ton bison.
2020 Year in Numbers

2020 Year in Numbers

In my 2019 Year in Review post I mentioned that I had taken 10,000 photos that year. However, as I also admitted, I really had no clue how many photos I took – only how many I kept. I also jokingly said I’d keep better track in 2020.

One of my favorite images of 2020.

Well, I did. Every time I came back from photographing, whether it be a walk near home or a bigger trip, I first recorded how many files were on my memory cards before starting my review and editing.

Now, 2020 turned out to probably not be the best year for tracking what’s “normal” in terms of the number of photos took considering how many trips were cancelled, but it did suggest that my 10,000 estimate was way low.

So how many did I take in 2020?

So, 2020…

No need to add commentary about the year on the whole, though, really, all-in-all I cannot complain. While this was the first year in a decade to not include international travel, I was still able to explore in my home state and region, as well as a trip to Maine.

As I try to do each year, I’ve selected 20 of my favorite images of the year. It’s always fun to look back, see where I’ve been and relive moments that seem so long ago but really were not.

Here are my personal top 20 from 2020. They weren’t always the most “liked” on social media (or even posted online) or the most eye-catching, but rather my personal 20 that captured my year outdoors.

Fall in Acadia National Park – 2020

Fall in Acadia National Park – 2020

After the trip to Rocky Mountain National Park and Grand Teton National Park, I had one more trip left for fall, Acadia National Park. Unlike the others, this wasn’t a road trip and as such it was almost called off to avoid flying. Luckily, everything worked out and we still made the trip, though with a few changes.

Below are a few of my favorites from in and around Acadia National Park this fall.
